After lodging nearby, Bill bought a house in East Barnet in 1988 or 1989.
It hadn't been touched since it was built in the 1930's, though he didn't manage
to persuade a museum to take the antique kitchen furniture (they didn't have room for it).
Over the next couple of years he had the bathroom and kitchen replaced, but I recognised
some of the furniture from Dundee!
In 1994 Bill decided to move temporarily abroad, to Switzerland, to take advantage of the
increased salary (exchange rate SFR 1.8 = £1) and the opportunity to walk in the mountains.
